Yes We Can!
Millions of American's came together as one on the night of November 4th, 2008. Their thoughts were not about political parties or race, it was about making the right choice in their leader, someone who will embrace the change the United States so desperately needs to earn back the trust lost around the world.
President-Elect Barack Obama will take over this country in a time of war and with a economy in shambles from the last eight years of George W. Bush's failed presidency. No president since Franklin Roosevelt has been confronted with so many challenges before taking office, but Obama is not waisting anytime and began talks with his Transition Team today in Chicago.
Tuesday night Barack Obama spoke before 240,000 people at Chicago's Grant Park
The president-elect told his supporters, "This is your victory."
He gave an awe inspiring speech, one that no doubt will be replayed a million times on YouTube.
"If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer."
Just prior to Obama taking stage, Senator John McCain spoke at his rally, at the mention of Barack Obama the crowed began to boo, and were hushed by Sen. McCain. This was a prime example of the Republican base and their negative attitudes and demeanor, racist remarks and accusations. On the flip side when Obama mentioned McCain - not one derogatory remark, in fact when finished the crowd applauded McCain's efforts.
Obama's speech will certainlly inspire this country and people around the world, and some of his closing remarks are a great indication of the kind of leadership he brings to the office of the President of the United States.
"And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn, I may not have won your vote tonight, but I hear your voices. I need your help. And I will be your president, too."
"And to all those watching tonight from beyond our shores, from parliaments and palaces, to those who are huddled around radios in the forgotten corners of the world, our stories are singular, but our destiny is shared, and a new dawn of American leadership is at hand."
AIDS Deaths in South Africa
Even the fastest rate of treatment scale up in South Africa will be unable to prevent around one million AIDS deaths between now and 2010. HIV is the main driving force behind South Africa's high child death rates and unless there is a "global" concerted effort to put child survival strategies in place the country faces an "unstoppable wave of child mortality."
